I had to think long and hard about my capture devices as I wanted to capture as much as possible, without
needing loads of equipment and knowledge on how each works. I started out with a Elgato but ended up purchasing
The Avermedia LGX GC550. Its the muts nuts as far as I'm concerned. It captures everything from 480i up to 1080p
@ 60 FPS. It also connects to most machines with HDMI, component, PS3. As I will never do 4k recording / streaming
this is fine. It does come with some hefty minimum system specs requirements however:
CPU: i5-4440 3.10GHz(Hardware codec recommend).
GFX: NVIDIA GTX660 or above (DX10 or above).
Memory: 4G RAM.
USB 3.0: Intel chipset with native USB 3.0 host controller.
If you're running this from a laptop, it requires an i7 CPU and that's just to capture onto it. I do have an internal card
that I use with minimal specs needed, but this will only do 1080p @ 30FPS. The thing to look out for is that youtube
can only process 60FPS video if it's 720p or higher. Which might be a consideration for some. The footage and auido
capture by the LGX is spot on. I can't fault it. So unless 4k gaming is something you're going to capture, this devices comes highly
recommended and is my main 1080p capture device.
My internal PEXHDCAP does all the other captures due to its superior capabilities, compatability and low overheads.
